Student intention to travel FAQs

Your education will be a mix of online and on-campus activities. On-campus education will mostly be small group teaching: seminars, tutorials and practical work, depending on the subject area. We expect all our students to join us on campus in September for these activities. If you are unable to travel to campus because of international travel restrictions, or for health reasons, we will ensure your teaching and learning outcomes are still met.

If you have received an email about completing an arrival form in MySIS, below are some frequently asked questions that may assist you.

What is the latest date I can select to arrive in the UK or onto campus?

You should be able to select an arrival date up to 7 February 2022 in Semester 2. Please note that students on some programmes will be required to be in the UK by a specified date. For further details on these programmes please see ‘My programme starts in September 2021 and I am currently unable to travel to the UK, what should I do?’ on the Coronavirus frequently asked questions page:

Is completing the arrival form compulsory?

Yes. This will help us manage our accommodation facilities, arrange self-isolation support for students joining us from amber list countries, and allow us to keep in touch with you if you need to quarantine on your arrival in the UK. If you’re not able to join us from the start of the semester, understanding your plans will help us make sure you’re able to access support to study online.

If I do not know what my plans are yet, should I complete it?

Yes, please. It would greatly assist if you could provide your initial intention as this will help support us in supporting you to join or return to Queen Mary. If your plans are not 100% fixed, please submit the information as ‘intended’ and then confirm at a later date.

What if my plans change and I want to amend a date?

Should you wish to change the information you submitted, you can do so by revisiting the arrival form in MySIS. The deadline for amendments is 31 October 2021

What should I put on the form if I will be living in halls?

If you are going to be living in campus accommodation please indicate when you are due to arrive on the form.

If I have selected a date, do I need to wait for confirmation from QMUL before travelling to campus?

No, you can travel to campus whenever you wish.

If I have selected a date, am I allowed to visit campus before?

Yes, but it would help us if you could amend the dates on the form if you decide you will travel to campus earlier.

I am due to complete a year abroad as part of my programme for the 2021/22 academic year (outside of the UK), does this form apply to me?

No, if you are not going to be travelling to the UK or to campus to study, you are not required to complete the form.

Can I collect my student ID card on the same date I have selected to indicate when I will be travelling to campus?

Unfortunately not. You will be sent a time slot confirming when to collect your ID card (if you wish to collect it). If you are not able to collect at this time, the Octagon (Queens’ building) will be open 27 September – 1 October 2021. No appointment for collection will be necessary between these dates. If you arrive after 1 October 2021, please refer to our ID card collection webpage for guidance on where and when to collect your card.

I am already in London, does this form apply to me?

Yes - please complete the form as this will help us to support your time at Queen Mary.

I am living at home/I am not going to be living on campus, does this arrival form apply to me?

Yes - please complete the form as this will help us to support your time at Queen Mary.

I have completed the form but I am still receiving reminders, is this correct?

Reminders are sent if you have provided us with dates marked as intended.

I am not an international student, does this form apply to me?

Yes, the form is for all students to complete. If you are already in the UK, it would help us to understand when you plan to visit campus.
